Free Nonprofit Budget Workshop

It is a real challenge managing a nonprofit. And an even bigger one when your background is your passion for an idea but without business training or accounting experience.  There is a wonderful free program being offered by NCCU that should provide some great information and networking opportunities.

Below is an e-mail sent by Alexia Forte  that she said I could share on a FREE budgeting workshop scheduled for June 12th.

NCCU Community Development Initiative invites non-profit leaders and social entrepreneurs in Durham and surrounding counties to a free budgeting workshop. The sessions will explore budget preparation and operating organizations without large grants.  In addition, attendees will have an opportunity to advertise non-profit organizations and events. The workshop will be on June 12, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in the Whiting Criminal Justice Building.

Workshop sessions include; “Successful Budgeting: Strategies that work “presented by Maximo Mukelabai, CPA of Maximo Mukelabai, CPA, PC and “Operating with Limited Resources” presented by the NC Association of Fundraising Professionals.  The panel discussion, moderated by Joel McCauley, MBA of the Durham Black Chamber of Commerce, will provide an opportunity to
discuss relevant topics with seasoned professionals and other non-profits administrators, within the Durham community. The purpose of the workshop is to encourage financial security in a volatile economic climate. Due to the decline in philanthropic donations and grant funding, it is imperative that non-profit organizations understand the importance of budgeting.

Early registration is required for lunch. If you would like additional information or to receive a registration form, please contact Ms. Alexia Forte at (919) 451-9794, Ms. Sunni Fleming at (919) 306-5809 or email  Please submit a completed registration form before June 7, 2010.
